John, your model is looking really wonderful! Good work!
I saw a magnificent build earlier this month in the Silja -livery. I'll try to remember to snap some pics the next time I'm over. They are definitely out there! I'm wondering, could we offer here assistance for people who want to convert their models into a Finnlines Finnjet? The differences aren't impossible to overcome. First off we could offer a basic list of major differences regarding the obvious, such as exhausts, CC-class and then the less obvious. Second, detailed instructions or tips on how to do the more tricky parts, such as how to remove the CC-section and replace it with the wind protection walls. Perhaps a printable cut-out masking paper for spraying the name in the right size and shape? And while we are at it, we could perhaps even give tips on how to improve the original model. Unfortunately even the image on the second batch package has errors on it. Furthermore, it is generally not a good idea to use the Revell -ship for supersized models. Our plans are from the original Finnjet and will work much better. Some are online, more will follow.

Hi there.
Thank you for the comments . Marcel .I used a humbrol matt brown.I wont be at home till Saturday and I will post the tin number then. Risto To convert the revell model in to any of her Livery other than the one on the box will require work. Take the Finn Lines livery 1 and 2 1977 to 1987.In 1981 she had Diesel engines fit so after that day there is less work. Then came the Commodore cabins Which means less work in converting the model . On here there are many good photo's and plans . This should answer most questions on what changed over the years.A list would be useful but when modeling you can not beat photo's . You are correct in that the model is not 100% accurate but gives a good representation of the real ship. There are many part I will miss out because she is 1:400 and there is only so much you can do, before things come to fragile. I have a few ideas on transfers for her name and the big FINNJET done the hull watch this space. One thing I will say you need a special printer to print white so I have a few ides in the making. This is the first of two models of Finnjet the second will be from 2004 onwards. John

Well got a bit more done. I am happy with the new sun deck. Still have to do both glass ends of that deck. I am not sure weather or not to but the beams that were on the inside of the sun deck or not? Added the stairs to the bridge and put some hand rail around them. I think this is a good improvement to the revell kit. Started on some transfers but they will not be ready for a few days due to varnish drying . Started on the life boats they really do improve her looks.

Hi Marcel
Not sure what you mean by the stroke. For the windows. I have done 2 types. 1. All the Revell molded windows. 1 I painted all the sides in a gloss white paint. 2 I used a perement marker fine point and coloured in the windows not going out side of the window. 3 I used 1200 grit wet and dry sand paper . VERY VERY lightly I rubbed the window keeping the sand paper FLAT. This Brought out the window frame and the dividing bars. 2. For the Sun deck windows 1 I have used white water slide transfer paper and printed on black windows. I don't know if this will work as the last coat of varnish is drying . 2 For the sundeck it's self they were made from HO scale plastic ladder with a piece of 0.3mm plastic rod stuck down the center. This came from a company called Plastruct ladder part no 90672 0.3 mm rod part no 90709. If the sticker I made work I can email/send you the art work John

Hi I put the transfers on Finnjet today . Had mixed results.
1 Windows, very happy the look good. Need to make some more. 2 Finnjet F logo . happy .this was done in M\S paint so the circle is not the best. Over all a good result. 3 Small Finnjet names on the rear of the hull. not best pleased. There was some blue ink bleed at the edges so you an see the edge of the transfer . I will try some blue paint and see what happens. Large FINNJET on the side of the hull. I am going to try vinyl . A friend of mine has a robo cutter printer that can cut out Finnjet from the vinyl sheet. Will have to see how that works. John Marcel I have sent you an email

Regarding the use of MS Paint. I prefer the use of the free program GIMP for all kinds of image editing, be that removal of rust from images (have to always indicate this in the image data) or the creation of new material. GIMP can be downloaded freely for at least Mac OS X and MS operating systems.
Another great and free tool for the creation of various types of society documentation is the OpenOffice.org package. Thank you for posting images of the model on our website!

Hi all
Thank you for that tip I will have to have a look. Not much ha happened. I have put on the last of the life boats and the transfers and the wind shield at the rear. Finnjet took to the water for the first time last night and there was a big big problem, She is to heavy. With just the model and a 6V battery she sat to low in the water. So I am going to have to have a rethink on what to do on her. John

Hi all
Every think was weighed to the nearest gram. New motors are being fitted and a new battery has been ordered. I have trimmed back plastic on the model . All of this has help save over 100g weight. So hopefully she will sail. John

She is about to have her 3rd set of motors now they weigh only 10g each the first was 32g each. A light battery is being looked in to . hopefully this will work.

Hi all
well the new motors are in and I remade the prop shafts out of tube as the old one were solid rod. This has helped in the weight dept new motors 11g each new shafts 5g each old shafts were 10g each. The new motors work well and make a fair bit of power on 4.8v,one of them is running a bit tight so this will require some work. Done some more testing in the Baltic (bath) on her weight. As there is no more easy to remove weight I have come to accepted she will run about 2mm deeper than her water line. This does have the benefit of increasing stability. All so her hull is blue/black above the water line and black below so it is hard to determine were the water line is. Next job is to order a nice light weight Lipo battery of ebay as this will help clocking in at 30g. John

Hi all
finally got here on the water for her first sea trial . She is a fair weather boat. The mixer on the 2 ESC help as she can spin on the spot. There a bit more to do on the model to finish her off. John

Well Finely got the Big Finnjet logo done.
Tried a new ESC that can run at a bigger voltage. She now runs faster and has a bit of power. the problem is her weight in that she cant take any so is top heavy and prone to rolling. Still got 1 or 2 ideas to try before I throw the towel in and say she not a good boat to sail. Still a few bits to finish off on her but she at least 98% done. John
